A nest or sleeping place is often made under a pile of logs, in a compost heap or a pile of leaves. Often, however, our tidy landscape lacks opportunities for the hedgehog to build a nest. As an imitation of a natural nest, this hedgehog basket is the ideal home for a hedgehog. Place the hedgehog basket on a slightly dry surface in a sheltered and quiet place in the garden. Place some loose leaves in the basket. Then cover the basket with a thick layer of leaves, then with a plastic sheet, then again with leaves, branches and other natural materials. The opening should be left free and preferably not oriented to the north or northeast. It is important that the structure is sufficiently sturdy so that dogs and badgers cannot easily destroy it.
