The BirdMic complete pack is the complete equipment with a parabolic microphone to enjoy the sounds of nature. Compact, simple and economical. You don't need any extra device to enjoy the sounds in real time (it is self-powered). Delivers professional results. It is very easy to use and no prior experience is necessary. It takes up very little space in your backpack.
This small device is designed to amplify sounds of 1.5KHz and higher (mostly calls and bird calls), but you can listen to and record all types of sounds (20Hz – 20Khz). This complete analog system produces virtually no noise and you can record sound with your favorite smartphone application or any device you prefer. It allows you to connect a bird identification app in real time and will be more educational and effective.
BirdMic is also designed to attach to the hot shoe of your video camera. You can use it as a typical microphone and it will work perfectly. Plus, you can monitor sound even if you don't have an output port on the camera thanks to its unique audio interface.
The BirdMic interface also offers 2 sound modulation buttons that can be used independently. This sound will be modified before recording and helps achieve better results during post-production. You can monitor the sound in real time through the headphones.
- LOW FREQUENCY CUT: Activate this button to reduce low frequency noise such as wind, engines or roads.
- BOOST: Use to amplify the entire spectrum if the sound is weak.
It also includes a volume potentiometer that regulates the volume of the headphones.
Don't forget to add an extra headphone and a splitter to share the experience in the field and learn together.
Make sure you have the audio input on your smartphone, if it is an iPhone you will probably need an adapter that is offered as an extra. For jack type inputs and USB-C it is included.
How to use:
Connect the audio interface directly to the parabolic dish, without the need for cables (male to female jack). Connect headphones (wired) to the interface and you can hear the sounds wherever you point. If you want to record the sounds, connect a smartphone or any device to the “OUT” port of the interface. Use the included brackets to attach the device to the parabolic dish for added convenience. The sound quality does not depend on the phone's internal microphone. Therefore, use a professional application and the results will be professional too. You can use a sound identification app and BirdMic will allow you to focus on a bird and you will learn faster.
How does it work:
BirdMic uses a high-sensitivity omnidirectional microphone located at the focal point of the parabolic dish. The external face of the plate isolates sound coming from the back and sides. The inner face sends the front sound to the focal point. The microphone picks up the direct sound coming from the front and the rest of the sound bounced off the inside of the parabolic dish. This signal (physically isolated and amplified by the parabola) passes to the audio interface that amplifies it again and can be modulated (Low Frequency Cut and Boost). The final signal is sent simultaneously to the headphones and the recording device.
