Application
The MW-02 bat box is based on the flat box design by Erik Korsten (Zoogdiervereniging) and is characterized by three compartments located behind each other. These compartments are connected with eachother so bats can move from one compartment to the other. Due to the size of the box and the presence of different compartments the box offers more buffering of warmth compared to traditional boxes with only one compartment. This makes the MW02 especially suited as maternity box.
The box is based on the same design as the MW01, but is closed at the back end. This is why the box can be placed on a wall as well as to a tree or a pole.
The MW02 is suitable for many species of bats amongst which the Pippistrelle (see table below). What species will occupy the box strongly depends on the species richness at the location and of the location of the box. This box is also suitable as a maternity residence. In mild winters the MW02 can be used as a hiding place.
The standard measures of this box is 80 x 70 x 12 cm. It is also possible to get boxes with other measurements, with more ór less compartments. Or in another color. Please contact us for this.
Through small adjustments it is also possible to connect multiple boxes to eachother, so a larger marternity box is created.

Material
The MW02 is made of concrete plywood. This is a strong type of plywood of which the plates are glues together in a watertight way. The concrete plywood is also coated with phenolic coating. This ia a hard, smooth and watertight coating that makes the material more sustainable to damage and is more durable. The outside of the box is provided with a brown coating. Further treatment of the MW01 box is not neccessary.
On the inside of the concrete plywood there are 5mm thick grooves, that make it a surface with a lot of grip for the bats. In this way they can move easily through the bat box.
At the bottom site of the box there is a hatch that can be used for inspection and cleaning of the bat box.
Placement and Assembly
The MW02 can be attached to a tree or pole using the brackets (indluced).
The box shold be place at least 4 to 5 meters high. Preferably on a sunny spot without any chance of rain getting in. Do not place the box under of in proximity of artificial lights. It is recommended to place several bat boxes together, prefarably their entrances placed in different directions. Plugs and screws are included.
